Taxpayers banking on their federal refund may have to wait a bit longer to get their money if the government shutdown goes on into the spring.

Westchester CPA Andrew Kabatchnick says get ready for a "roller coaster tax season."

The shutdown reportedly has the IRS operating with only about 13 percent of its normal staff. The reduced workforce means the much-anticipated federal tax refunds could be delayed.

"Even with the shutdown the way it is now the federal forms coming out on time could be delayed," says Kabatchnick.

The shutdown just adds to what was already going to be a tough tax season because of the new federal tax law changes.

Kabatchnick is already getting bombarded with calls from clients. He is telling his clients to do everything as normal.

The IRS has yet to announce when individuals or businesses can start submitting income tax returns.
