Gov. Kathy Hochul proposed a new act to tackle high heating bills in her State of the State address.
Hochul’s initiative, the New York Home Energy Affordable Transition, or "HEAT" Act aims to give new people cleaner heat and pay less for energy.
The “HEAT Act” includes:
-Provisions, like eliminating the payment for a new gas hookup for new customers by existing ones.
-More spending on cleaner and more affordable options, like heat pumps.
-Improved access to renewable electricity and heating for low-income households.
The “HEAT Act” passed in the state Senate last year, and now the state Assembly is now going through it.
