Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation Tuesday to raise the sale age on tobacco and e-cigarette products from 18 to 21.

Residents throughout Westchester, including those who smoke, say they are in favor of raising the age.

Christopher Ortega, 34, says he's been smoking since he was 14. The Valhalla resident says he supports the new state law.

"I agree with the age limit going up to 21," says Ortega. "That seems fair."

Gov. Cuomo says raising the smoking age from 18 to 21 will stop cigarettes and the popular e-cigarettes, from getting into the hands of young people.

Kent Berthold, of White Plains, says even though the law exists, teens will find a way around it.

"They're going to get adults to buy it for them," says Berthold. "It was the same thing with alcohol. I could get as much as I wanted. I can get someone who is 21 to buy it for me."

The new law goes into effect in November.
