Incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo has defeated Fordham University professor Zephyr Teachout to win the Democratic nomination for governor.
Cuomo won over Teachout and comedian Randy Credico, who did not actively campaign in the race.
Cuomo had received overwhelming support from the state party and big unions, as well as big names like Hillary Clinton. Teachout ran her campaign saying she represented the true values of the Democratic base.
Cuomo's running mate, former Buffalo Rep. Kathy Hochul, won the nomination in the race for lieutenant governor. Hochul defeated Teachout's running mate, Columbia University law professor Tim Wu.
Cuomo and Hochul will now face Republican nominees Rob Astorino for governor and Christopher Moss for lieutenant governor.
