Dread. The look of absolute misery. Long Islander Joe Mazzola felt what every Giants fan did last night in the final minute of New York’s 20-17 loss at Kansas City on "Monday Night Football."
Mazzola’s expression went viral and has captured the screens of football fans everywhere in the last 24 hours. His mug has been a hit on social media channels for ESPN’s "SportsCenter," Sports Illustrated, FanDuel and dozens more, raking up millions of social interactions in the process.
Mazzola, 28, who works in sales in New York City, was in Kansas City as part of an annual trip to different NFL stadiums to root on his Giants.
“It’s definitely weird to see your face everywhere,” said Mazzola, who grew up in Holbrook and attended Sachem High School East. “I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who looked that defeated last night.”
The Giants are now 2-6 and in the basement of the NFC East.
“By this point, we should be numb to these losses,” said Mazzola. “yet this team has the uncanny ability to get your hopes up only to let you down by inventing new ways to lose football games every week.”
