A breast cancer survivor on a mission to help women in Africa beat their diagnosis reunited with the doctor who helped her.
Dr. Karen Karsif and Isabella Asante were together at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern on Wednesday. The two spoke about the past and plans for the future.
"It's such a pleasure to see her," said Dr. Karsif.
“Being back here, eight years after the fact is very emotional for me,” said Asante. “I'm trying my best not to cry but it just goes to show how far I have come."
As News 12 reported, Asante was a traveling nurse at Good Sam when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015.
The hug Asante got from Dr. Karsif after was the idea behind her "Embrace Society" foundation to help women in her home country of Ghana beat breast cancer.
Dr. Karsif went to Ghana months ago and visited health care facilities alongside Asante to figure out how to help.
Asante's efforts include building a breast cancer center in Ghana and financially supporting women seeking treatment there.
Both women plan to continue helping those in Rockland or in Ghana beat their diagnosis.
