Gas prices are on the rise across the Hudson Valley as people prepare for weekend getaways this Memorial Day holiday.
The Shell Station on South Bedford Road in Bedford is charging $4.09 a gallon for regular gas when you pay with cash. For Shirley Altman, that price is steep since she is one of millions of people nationwide traveling for the holiday weekend.
Altman, who is traveling for a graduation, says it's a necessary trip that will be delightful but hates that she has to pay so much to fill her tank.
According to AAA, 42 million people will be heading away despite the high gas prices.
The $4.09 gas price at the Shell Station is over a $1.25 more than the national average. Some residents say they think the gas station owners hike up the price because the station is right in the middle of Route 22 and I-684.
