Garrison residents are looking to put a stop to Philipstown's plan to steamroll South Mountain Pass and transform it from dirt to pavement.
The residents have been pleading with the town board for weeks to not go forth with the project, which is slated to begin Thursday.
During meetings, the board pointed to environmental and human safety issues such as access to emergency vehicles as reasons to go ahead with construction.
Residents say the road could be disastrous when wet and lead to accidents.
Neighbors and hikers say they hope the town will have a last-minute change of heart.
News 12 reached out to the Philipstown supervisor, but he was unavailable for comment.
