Women helping women succeed and grow local businesses was the focal point of the Women's Enterprise Development Center’s (WEDC) annual spring gala and awards ceremony at Tappan Hill in Tarrytown Thursday night.
WEDC helps female entrepreneurs start and grow businesses in the Hudson Valley. The not-for-profit group also provides classes and services to foster success.
Graduates of the training programs say the organization was vital to their success. "I'm in construction and so there's not many of us, and I just think the support of other women in the similar industry is so beneficial... it makes you feel like somebody has your back and I know WEDC does," says Debra Fossati, of Fossati Plumbing & Heating in Brewster.
"Women supporting business is needed so much. I've grown so by being able to be around like-minded women, who support each other and who encourage each other. Girl power...you can't beat it!!" adds Rachael Gatling, of "Change Your Story" in White Plains.
The group also presented three highly accomplished leaders with the "Enterprising Woman Award" to celebrate their work in the community.
News 12’s Lisa Salvadorini was the master of ceremonies for the annual event.
