Funeral services were held today for the Spring Valley toddler who was fatally struck by a pickup truck outside of his family's home last week.
Dominic Mero was struck last Friday in the parking lot of the Lottie Gardens apartment complex where he lived.
Police say the driver of the truck, 33-year-old Jerson Rivera, of Pomona, was backing up when the toddler broke away from an older sibling and ran into the parking area. Rivera stayed on the scene and was not charged.
Since the 20-month-old boy's death, there has been an outpouring of support from the community. The Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council raised about $2,200 through donations to help the family with funeral costs.
Funeral services for the boy were held at the Rivera Funeral Home in the Corona section of Queens. He was laid to rest at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Kew Gardens.
