The beautiful weather Sunday allowed thousands of people to hit the street to raise money for good causes.
Ronald McDonald led the way for hundreds in Valhalla who took part in a walk to raise money for The Ronald McDonald House on the grounds of the Marie Fareri Children's Hospital. The house provides families of sick children with meals and a place to stay while the little ones are recovering.
Organizers say that many who walked have a personal connection to the facility. "They do it because they have firsthand experience, having a sick child, I think that's the main reason why they do it. And they also support their families and friends that are going through it," says Marielena DiMatteo of The Ronald McDonald House.
In White Plains, hundreds of runners took advantage of a rare opportunity to run on the Bronx River Parkway free of traffic. Over 700,000 runners took part in the 10th annual Westchester Medical Center Running Festival. The proceeds help fund services at the hospital.
