Friends and family are mourning the loss of a 45-year-old Yonkers detective who died Sunday when his SUV collided with a firetruck on its way to a call.
The crash occurred just before 3 a.m. near Palmer and Sunnybrook roads.
Detective Frank Fernandez, a 15-year veteran of the force, died at the scene, even as firefighters fought to save him by cutting him out of his vehicle.
The fire call would turn out to be a false alarm.
Authorities say the results of toxicology tests performed on Fernandez could take several weeks.
Wake services for the married father of two will be held at the Whalen and Ball Funeral Home on Wednesday and Thursday.
His funeral is scheduled for Friday morning at Sacred Heart Church in Yonkers.
