Free rides will help revelers get home safely on New Year's Eve
Organizations across the Hudson Valley are offering free cab rides to those who have had a little too much to drink on New Year?s Eve.
With police out in full force this weekend, many organizations in the area are trying to make sure everyone can have a safe celebration to start their year.
People going to the White Plains New Year's Eve Family Spectacular should look for the "New Year Safe Ride Stand" on the corner of East Post Road and Mamaroneck Avenue. The cabs will be available from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. to drive anyone 21 and older to any home in Westchester.
In parts of Rockland, the TJ McGowan Funeral Home in Garnerville is running a Safe Ride program. They'll be offering rides in the North Rockland area. Rides are available from midnight to 4 a.m.
In Orange County, there's a program called "Alert Cab" sponsored by Dana Distributors in Goshen. They're working with local cab companies and more than 700 bars, restaurants and catering halls in Rockland, Orange and Sullivan counties. They say just give your keys to the bartender who will call a cab when you're ready to leave. The bartender will give your keys to the cab driver and you'll get them when you get home. They require that your destination must be home and it has to be within 10 miles of wherever you're picked up.
