(11/27/06) THE BRONX ? The long holiday weekend ended in tragedy for a group of lifelong friends from Yonkers.
Police say the four men were driving on I-95 near the Gun Hill Road exit in the Bronx after a night out at a Harlem club. According to witnesses, the car was driving extremely fast when it hit a divider at about 4:45 Sunday morning. They say the vehicle then flipped and burst into flames. One man, 26-year-old Anthony Rivera, was ejected from the vehicle. His three friends all apparently became trapped in the vehicle and burned to death.
Rivera was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where he was pronounced dead Monday. Police are investigating the cause of the crash, but it appears speed may have been a factor.
