Residents in Airmont are breathing easier today after the reason for a foul odor in their community has been discovered.
Earlier this week a neighborhood in Airmont said they had difficulty being outdoors because the pumping station nearby smelled so bad, but they didn't know why.
The mayor of Airmont tells News 12 that the unpleasant smell came from the sewer pumping station because the filter was shut off.
The purpose of the filter is to eliminate odors, but the mayor isn't sure why it was turned off.
