Former Stew Leonard's employee files suit alleging hostile environment, racist and sexist comments
A former employee of Stew Leonard’s has filed a federal lawsuit against the company and CEO Stew Leonard Jr.
The 35-page complaint from Robert Crosby accuses the supermarket chain of creating a hostile work environment. Crosby, a 20-year employee, says Stew Leonard Jr. made racist and sexist comments targeting Black people, women and Jews.
Crosby says he repeatedly complained about the work environment. He also says he developed disabilities after contracting COVID-19 while working at the Yonkers store as a loss prevention manager.
He says he was fired when he attempted to return, in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
“Robert Crosby, Jr. worked for Stew Leonard's almost 20 years, but unfortunately we had to part ways," says Stew Leonard Jr. "We understand he brought a lawsuit, and we will review it with our attorneys, however we do not comment on pending litigation.”
