Former local football star charged in '94 murder
A former Eastchester High School football player who went on to play in the NFL was arrested Wednesday for allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend's fiancé in order to collect on his life insurance.
Eric Naposki, 42, was taken into custody at his home in Greenwich, Conn., and charged with murdering California businessman Francis McLaughlin in 1994. Police say Naposki wanted to help Nanette McNeil collect on the victim's $1 million life insurance policy.
"Eric Naposki entered the residence and shot him six times with a 9 mm," says Orange County Prosecutor Matt Murphy.
Both Naposki and McNeil were considered suspects in the murder early in the investigation, but authorities say until now there was never any physical evidence to connect them to the crime.
Naposki, who grew up in Tuckahoe, played football for the University of Connecticut before joining the New England Patriots and later the Indianapolis Colts.
A source tells News 12 Westchester that in recent years Naposki worked at the Kombine Sports Gym in Mount Kisco, training high school football players. That information wasn't denied or confirmed by the management of the gym.
Naposki was charged with being a fugitive from justice in Connecticut. In California he was charged with murder for financial gain and the use of a firearm to commit murder. While awaiting extradition to California, Naposki is being held on $2 million bond.
