Two women who ignited the international “Me Too” movement are pushing Connecticut lawmakers to ban “non-disclosure agreements” for workplace abuse.

Former Fox News anchors Gretchen Carlson and Julie Roginsky spoke at the state Capitol complex on Tuesday afternoon.

“By passing a ban on non-disclosure agreements for toxic workplace issues, Connecticut will lead the nation in putting an end to a culture of silence that protects predators at the expense of survivors,” Roginsky said. “It will ensure that no one will be forced to choose between being compensated for enduring horrific trauma and speaking out about that trauma.”

Both women accused former Fox News chief Roger Ailes of sexual harassment, which led to his public ouster. Their stories were made into the 2019 film, “Bombshell.”

Even though Carlson reached a highly publicized $20 million settlement, she still can’t tell her story.

“My story may be public, but I am still silenced by an NDA,” said Carlson, who lives in Greenwich. “It prohibits me from ever disclosing what really happened to me at Fox.”

The proposed legislation would ban NDAs for workplace harassment and discrimination. Similar bills have failed before after employers raised concerns.

Currently, three states – New Jersey, California and Washington – ban NDAs and “non-disparagement agreements” for toxic workplaces. Roginsky said other states, like New York, have watered-down bans.
