A former Fairfield official was sentenced to more than three years in prison Wednesday for threatening members of the Fairfield Police Department, prosecutors say.

On Dec. 18, Ray Neuberger, of Easton, pleaded guilty in federal court to threatening officers.

Prosecutors say Neuberger sent texts in April 2025, in which he threatened to kill officers. At the time, he was on probation for killing one cat, torturing another and threatening police.

Officials say the 42-year-old screamed and made an obscene gesture at an officer during a traffic stop and later at headquarters.

The former Fairfield Representative Town Meeting member also made continuous threatening calls to police and the Fairfield County Regional Dispatch Center. Officials say he put a threatening letter in the mailbox of a neighbor who is an FBI Special Agent.

Neuberger has been ordered to pay a $15,000 fine.

He additionally has a long history of animal cruelty.
