Food Bank of the Hudson Valley reaches milestone in new building construction

A major milestone was reached Thursday in the construction of the new regional Hudson Valley Food Bank in Montgomery.

The 40,000-square-foot building on Route 416 is double the size of the nonprofit's old location in Cornwall and is expected to cost $22.5 million to build.
Food bank reps say the building will help the nonprofit feed the 200,000 families it serves in the Hudson Valley.

“It’s a big day for us, a long time coming. We are really excited for what this is going to mean for the community and the people we serve,” says Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York CEO Tom Nardacci.
Nardacci says the food bank distributes 20 million pounds of food in six Hudson Valley counties – Orange, Sullivan, Rockland, Putnam, Ulster and Dutchess - each year. He says half of that now comes from Albany County since the current location in Cornwall is too small.
Construction of the new distribution center is expected to finish this summer.
