Most of the floodwaters that caused damage across parts of Yonkers, Mount Vernon and Pelham along the Bronx border are gone but residents are not out of the woods yet.

Many people have opted to keep their sandbags on hand, and police have left road barricades lining sidewalks in case they're needed for another round of potentially damaging storms Friday.

One Yonkers resident said flooding is all too common in Yonkers and there's only so much she can do ahead of time.

"I live on the third floor, so that's good and I just turn my air conditioners off, close the windows and say a little prayer," Yonkers resident Tina said.

Others said they were lucky the damage wasn't worse after Tuesday night.

"It's terrible the way the weather and everything is today," Mount Vernon resident Herb McSwain said.

One woman said her whole family is bracing for what could still come.

"We have a sump pump and so anytime the rain starts coming everybody's on alert," one Yonkers resident said a day after her garage took on 15 inches of water.
