An early morning fire tore though an apartment building in Mott Haven Thursday, forcing dozens of tenants into the street.
According to fire officials, the fire started at around 4 a.m. in the kitchen of a third-floor apartment inside the housing complex at 597 East 138th St.
The fire then spread, completely destroying the third, fourth and fifth floors of the six-story building.
One resident says if it were not for the barking of her neighbor's dog, people may not have made it out alive.
