The Piermont Village mayor wants to close a road on the pier for several weeks this summer.
Mayor Bruce Tucker announced his plan on Facebook, saying in part, “I’m asking the Village Board to close the pier to motorized vehicles for 21 days this summer. That’s only 5.7 percent of the year. It would be open to vehicles the other 344 days.”
Fishermen in the area are still unhappy with the possible road closure.
John Francesconi is a member of the Hudson River Fishermen's Association and has been fishing on the Piermont pier for 20 years. He says there are problems with the mayor's plan.
"You have many individuals who have purchased permits to use this pier for parking purposes and they would absolutely be denied that privilege," Francesconi said.
Francesconi says the pier belongs to everyone in the community and the mayor should not make it more difficult to enjoy.
