The Yonkers School District held its annual first-time school bus riders orientation program Friday.

The program is designed to make what could be an intimidating situation for incoming students less scary.

 It allows students to explore a school bus and learn about school bus safety procedures.

The program took place at elementary schools throughout the district.

"This is critical to our students and to our safety of them coming to school and getting on the correct bus and following orders of the bus, so they can arrive home safely and come to school safely," said Dr. Sandy Hattar, Principal of MLK Academy.
