A firefighter in Yonkers made a special delivery during a recent call.
Justin Colon, of the Yonkers Fire Department, says he was doing a night tour at Station 6 Tuesday night when a call about a woman in labor came in.
"We got a report early Wednesday morning of a woman possibly in labor," says Colon.
Colon says his crew rushed to the woman's apartment only to realize that her water had broken. He says they called 911, but the baby was already crowning. So Colon, who is also an ex-Marine, jumped into action and delivered a baby girl.
Kevin Ford, the deputy chief of operations for the Yonkers Fire Department, says his firefighters are prepared to handle anything
"Nowadays we're what's considered an all-hazards department," says Ford. "We respond on medical runs, car accidents and hazardous material spills. These guys are required to be proficient in so many different disciplines."
Colon says the whole thing was a humbling experience.
