Over a dozen New York Medical College students were displaced from student housing due to a fire on Wednesday.
The fire was confined to a second-floor apartment on the college's campus, according to the Valhalla Fire Department.
Firefighters say there was smoke coming from the building when they arrived around 5 p.m.
They were able to quickly put out the fire but had to take care of hot spots.
"It was pretty scary. I've never seen anything like that. I was hanging out with some friends in my suite. They happened to face the green quad area, and we saw that apartment just kind of have a ton of smoke that burst out of it. So, we came out to watch, but by that point there were already firetrucks and police officers were already on the scene," says Alex Parry.
The college says safe housing has been arranged for students displaced by the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
