A fire at a medical facility on Mamaroneck Avenue in Harrison prompted the evacuations of hundreds of patients, according to officials.
Firefighters say they removed about 400 people from the building -- including some who were under anesthesia.
"We were right in the middle of an operation, and we had to stop," says Dr. Jeff Horowitz, a surgeon at the building. "Fortunately, we were at a point where we could stop, and we do the surgeries under light anesthesia so the patient's pretty much awake."
Authorities say the fire sparked from cables in the building. No one was hurt.
