Fire officials say residents can expect to continue seeing smoke in the area of the former Hudson River State Psychiatric Center over the next several days, despite the fact that the fire is now fully contained.

On Wednesday, firefighters battled multiple fires at the vacant hospital.

According to the Fairview Fire District Facebook page, the fire has been fully contained, and all units and personnel have cleared the scene. Fire officials emphasize that the area will continue to be closely monitored.

Safety officials are reminding the public that the Hudson River State Psychiatric Center site remains private property, and trespassing is strictly prohibited.

“We strongly advise all residents to stay off the property for their own safety,” officials said.
