A family in Mamaroneck was forced to flee their home last night after it was engulfed by a fast-moving fire.
Fire officials say the fire broke out on Halstead Avenue home around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The homeowner says his family had just gone to bed when he smelled smoke.
It took about 70 firefighters more than two hours to get the fire under control. "We tried to get back in and make an interior fight and the whole third floor was fully gone," says Mamaroneck Fire Chief Craig Casterella.
Family members talked to News 12 off camera, and say they are staying at a family member's home up the street and that they are just relieved that everyone got out alright.
Fire officials believe the cause of the fire could be electrical.
