Hundreds of firefighters from six different departments from New York and New Jersey responded to a house fire in Suffern Sunday morning.
The firefighters, who remained at the scene in the afternoon, were on the third floor of the house putting out flames and throwing out damaged items.
The fire also caused part of the house to collapse.
The daughter of a woman who has lived in the house for more than 40 years told News 12 that everyone who lives in the residence made it out safely.
Neighbors are being credited for getting all the residents, a dog, a duck and a rabbit out of the home.
The mayor of Suffern said he is thankful to residents for clearing the snow piled on from the storm off the fire hydrants. There is an ordinance that requires residents to do this in the event of a snowstorm.
Because of the ordinance, it was not difficult for firefighters to connect hoses to the hydrants in their efforts to put out the flames.
So far, there are no reported injuries.
