Fall is in full swing, and so is the foliage in the Hudson Valley.
This week’s Road Trip: Close to Home is sure to add a little color to your life as we find some of the best spots to enjoy nature’s beauty.
We start our adventure at Quiet Cove Park in Poughkeepsie where colorful trees are tucked along the Hudson River. “This year, the season has seemed to really stretch out a lot, so it’s been great to welcome visitors here throughout the last month to get these beautiful views,” says Melanie Rottkamp, Dutchess County Tourism president.
The blazing fall colors highlight the horizon and frame the mountains and valleys of Dutchess County. “When you see those really vibrant red leaves, that’s a chemical process that happens in the fall to help the trees as they store nutrients for the winter,” says Rottkamp.
Next, we make our way to Hopewell Junction and visit Fishkill Farms. If you make a reservation,  you can enjoy more than 200 acres of rolling hills. It’s a perfect pitstop on your leaf-peeping tour. And while you’re there, check out the farm’s Pick-Your-Own Orchards or the brand new cider bar. Everything from fresh cider, hard cider to even cider donuts is made at  Fishkill Farms, with a backdrop that’ll make you feel like you're worlds away.
We head next to Peekskill where the journey is just as colorful as the destination. The scenic overlook is right off Route 6 and offers unparalleled views of Bear Mountain and the marshlands below. Or take a walk across the Bear Mountain Bridge for a different perspective, perched right above the Hudson River.
