Final figures from the Rockland County Board of Elections show Republican Michael Lawler defeated Democratic Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee by approximately 2,600 votes.

Jaffee had represented the 97th district since 2007.

Lawler says his goal is to rebuild New York state and make it affordable for all residents.

Jaffee says she is proud of what she has accomplished and is confident the Democratic leadership in the senate and assembly will ensure the district continues to care for our families and youth.
