The synthetic opioid fentanyl is now the number one killer of Americans ages 18 to 45, a new report says.
Fentanyl overdoses killed nearly 79,000 Americans in the age group between 2020 and 2021, according to newly released data.
The awareness group "Families Against Fentanyl" says over 37,000 people died from the drug last year, and over 41,000 died from it this year.
The data reveals the fentanyl-related deaths surpass combined deaths from suicide, car accidents, and even COVID-19 in the age group.
