A new report is shining a light on the growing problem of food insecurity in the United States. 

According to Feeding America, one in every seven Americans turns to food banks for help. That translates to nearly 50 million people, 12 million of them being children and 17 million being senior citizens. 

The study also says that food insecurity is causing a number of health issues, such as high blood pressure and diabetes, because nutrition is often sacrificed when struggling to make ends meet. 

The Bronx is among the hard-hit areas, with nearly 40 percent of its residents living below the poverty line, making it the poorest district in the city.
