A day after jurors came back with a not guilty verdict in the death of an illegal immigrant, the U.S. Attorney?s Office announced Wednesday it will review the case against former Mount Kisco Police Officer George Bubaris.
A jury found Bubaris not guilty of all charges in the 2007 death of Rene Perez. While his family and attorney celebrated the verdict, U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia announced his department ?will undertake an independent review of all the available evidence to determine whether any federal criminal civil rights laws have been violated."
Besides the federal investigation, Bubaris faces another lawsuit from Perez?s family. The deceased man?s family is also suing the Mount Kisco Police Department and the village for allegedly violating his civil rights.
Bubaris was found not guilty of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. For footage of people reacting to the not guilty verdict, go to channel 612 on your iO digital cable box and select iO Extra.
