The Fire Department of New York wants struggling lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth know that life does get better.
Commissioner Daniel Nigro announced Sunday that the FDNY has made an "It Gets Better" video, featuring a dozen firefighters, paramedics and EMTs who discuss the challenges LGBT youth face.
The video is part of the nonprofit It Gets Better Project founded in 2010 by activists Dan Savage and his husband, Terry Miller. The pair started the organization in response to the suicides of teenagers who were bullied because they were gay.
National Coming Out Day was being celebrated on Sunday.
