New York City's computerized 911 emergency dispatch system has been restored after it crashed for nearly two hours on Monday.
According to the fire department, the system was down from about 2:15 p.m. until 4:05 p.m., affecting ambulance calls only.
The FDNY says dispatchers worked to manually handle nearly 600 medical emergency calls during the outage. They then sent out ambulances by radio.
Officials say they received no calls for life-threatening emergencies in that time period, and they don't believe any calls were missed.
The system has experienced problems in the past, but it's not yet known exactly what caused the failure this time.
