The FBI and NYPD met Monday night at the Riverdale YM-YWHA to discuss security precautions in the area in light of the recent alleged terror plot foiled by authorities.
The representatives discussed ways to protect religious institutions in the Bronx at the meeting, which lasted about two hours. An organizer, who works at the Riverdale Y, says a main goal is to keep places of worship open to the public, while also increasing their safety. Four men were arrested in May for allegedly planting explosives in front of the Riverdale Temple and Riverdale Jewish Center.
FBI officials and members of the NYPD Counter Terrorism Unit say they have determined tactics to prevent future attacks and restore the public's confidence in the safety of the neighborhood. They shared information with community leaders at the meeting, and encouraged them to remain vigilant.
