A father-son duo, with family ties to Westchester, is biking from Maine to Florida to raise money for ALS research.
Pat Davitt cleaned his bike chain outside of Miller's Toys in Mamaroneck on Tuesday.
"I try to do this every day because we're biking about 50 miles a day," Davitt says.
The maintenance helps prevent issues on a 3,000-mile bike ride that he's taking with his dad, Emmet, to raise money for ALS research.
"We're riding the East Coast Greenway...from Calais, Maine, which is on the Canadian border, to Key West," Emmet says.
Emmet says they were inspired to embark on this journey because of their loved ones.
"My mother's twin sister's family has just been ravaged by ALS. I've already lost an uncle before his time, two cousins' wives and children have died, and now a fourth one is suffering from ALS," Emmet says.
The bike ride will take the father and son about 10 or 12 weeks to complete.
They're taking a short break in Mamaroneck to visit family.
"It's fantastic and very inspirational to see what they're doing. It's a physical challenge for a great cause and we hope that people in Westchester will help get behind it, as well," Craig Leddy, a loved one from Westchester, says.
Any donations will go to The Angel Fund for ALS Research.
"Yeah, it's a privilege to be able to do something like this," Davitt says. "We're doing this for someone, and a group of people, who aren't able to get up and ride their bike every day."
