The Bronx Bombers played their final home opener in the storied old Yankee Stadium Tuesday, a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Rain postponed Monday's home opener against the Blue Jays. Tuesday started dreary and wet, but the game went off without a hitch. The rain also didn't dampen local business owners' spirits.
"Two opening days are always good for business," says Jeff Wagner. "Gives people a chance to get down here and come by and see everything twice."But ticket holders who were unable to take off from work again to see the historic game were disappointed. "We were hoping they would play," says Louis Cabrera. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance and I won't be able to make it today."
The Yankees organization says anyone who could not attend Tuesday's game can use their tickets for a regular-season game.
Fans hope the Yankees will bring home another World Series championship to the House that Ruth Built before it fades into the background. The team is building a new stadium with top amenities right next door. The Yankees expect to play there next season.
