There was an outpouring of family support in court Friday for the Yonkers woman accused of driving drunk and causing a crash that killed her mother.
Police say 42-year-old Mercedes Cha was drunk after a night of partying in the Bronx when she slammed into a median on the NYS Thruway Thursday. Also in the car was Cha?s mother, 61-year-old Dilsa Brea, who wasn?t wearing a seat belt. She was killed in the crash. Cha?s attorney said in court that his client was suffering from depression following a four-year battle with breast cancer. Cha?s family posted the $25,000 bail.
State investigators are waiting for the results of Cha?s toxicology report to determine her blood alcohol content. Cha is due back in court on November 15.
