A Katonah family is turning its pain into something positive, but not everyone may agree since it involves converting a Yonkers building into a medical-marijuana dispensary.
The family started a company called Etain, which will offer marijuana to the terminally ill from Yonkers.
The company grew out of seeing a loved one suffer with ALS. "They put her on 18 different medications, and she started declining," Hillary Peckahm says, referring to her grandmother, who died.
Peckham says the product will be tracked from seed to sale, starting with production in upstate New York to the dispensary. "It's a highly regulated industry with a lot of security requirements."
The site of the future Yonkers dispensary is a firetruck storage facility on Nepperhan Avenue.
The dispensary will require that customers register and have a doctor's recommendation. They won't be able to simply walk in and get medical marijuana. Cannabis oil, not plants, will be distributed for use in droppers, sprays and more.
