Despite some shark encounters in New York over the past week, experts say beachgoers should still enjoy their time in the water.

Anxiety over sharks is at a tipping point after two shark attacks occurred off Fire Island last Wednesday and another shark was caught off Robert Moses State Park.

Many people from the Hudson Valley say they are worried about sharks, but experts say they shouldn't be.

"The odds of even getting bit worldwide are so incredibly low. More people die from bee stings and vending machines falling on them," says Long Island Aquarium co-founder Joe Yaiullo.

Yaiullo says swimmers would be surprised to learn how many sharks are around them that they never see because they have no interest in humans.

Of the times to avoid swimming, he says birds diving for fish could be a bad sign that sharks are near.  Dawn or dusk could also pose a risk, as they are prime mealtimes for sharks.

To ease swimmers' minds even more, state parks are now using drones to look for sharks and have increased lifeguard patrols to keep them safe.
