Firefighters continue to battle a wildfire that spans 5,000 acres through New York and New Jersey amid concerns over shifting winds.

A new ignition of fire was reported above East Shore Road in Greenwood Lake. Crews were able to create a protective fire line keeping neighborhoods in the area safe.

So far, no homes have been lost and there have not been any mandatory evacuations. However, fire officials say people should be ready just in case. They suggest preparing important belongings now, so items are ready to grab.

If an evacuation is ordered, sirens and loudspeakers will be used, and people will be given plenty of notice to clear the area.

EMS crews are ready to move out the elderly and disabled if needed and the American Legion at 40 Mountain Lakes Lane will be available as a shelter.
