Essex County native Angelina Killane-Sims is the founder of AAngels NJ. She started the nonprofit in 2011, three years after her breast cancer treatment.

"It's our mission that we try to save a life one woman at a time."

Killane-Sims started her nonprofit based in East Orange, New Jersey because she is all too painfully familiar with the battle that comes with a breast cancer diagnosis

"I was diagnosed with stage 3 dcis breast cancer."

According to the American Cancer Society, Ductal Carcinoma in Situ “means the cells that line the milk ducts of the breast have become cancer, but they have not spread into surrounding breast tissue.”

Now as a survivor of 17 years, Killane-Sims is using her second chance at life to help other women.

“The message I was supposed to get out of this journey is to get out there and help other people,"says Killane-Sims.

She says the focus that she and her committed volunteers have for AAngels is to be everything a woman may need as they get treatment.

" I call us women 360,” says Killane-Sims. “That is one of the names I call us because we try to encompass the whole life of the women impacted by breast cancer.”

AAngelsNJ offers car-share rides to treatment, they reimburse for childcare, they offer to go grocery shopping or deliver meals from local restaurants.

"I don't want to be a big business. Nothing against the big organizations. They are needed. They are doing great work,” says Killane-Sims.B ”I like to know, touch and feel everyone that reaches out and gets assistance from angels."

Killane-Sims says the organization is currently looking for a new building in Essex County to host their offices and programs.

They ask if you want to donate money or have a building in mind, to reach out and email them below.
