COVID-19 vaccine booster shots are being administered in Essex County.
The shots started to be rolled out on Saturday, just hours after they were authorized by the Food & Drug Administration and recommended by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention for certain immunocompromised people.
That includes anyone who's fighting a disease, undergoing medical treatments or has had an organ transplant.
Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo says the county is prepared to continue fighting the virus.
"This facility right now, you can get vaccinated, you can get tested, and now you can get the booster shot. We are ready,” he says.
Booster shots are by appointment only. Vaccine clinics are located at Essex County College in Newark and the old Kmart in West Orange. The clinics are open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
