An employee with the Eastchester Union Free School District has been arrested.
There's no word on who the employee is or why they were arrested.
In a message to the community, leaders with the school district say the arrest happened off of school property.
"You don't expect it, especially in a small town like this, the school district is very nice," says an Eastchester resident.
Families in the area say no matter what led up to the arrest, it's still shocking to hear.
"I think it's very scary for the kids, for the parents," says Hudson Valley parent, Pearl Blue.
News 12 has reached out to law enforcement agencies for more details on this arrest. We are still waiting to hear back.
School officials say the safety of their students and staff is always their top priority.
You can read the full statement from the superintendent here:
"Dear Members of the Eastchester School Community: Earlier today, the Superintendent’s Office received notification that a District employee was arrested off District premises.
Although the District is unable to comment on specific personnel matters, the District’s practice in such circumstances is to immediately place an employee on administrative leave pending a District investigation.
During such reassignment, the employee is not permitted on District property. As this is both a personnel and legal matter, we are unable to provide any additional information at this time; however, we wish to assure our families that the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority."
