UAW Local 571 reached a tentative agreement with General Dynamics Electric Boat, averting the plan to strike at midnight.
The nuclear submarine maker in Groton has been working without a contract for more than a month. Over 2,000 General Dynamics Electric Boat employees had threatened to strike this weekend.
UAW had said the company previously failed to meet demands for better pay and retirement security.
The Groton based company designs and makes nuclear submarines for the U.S. military. It is one of Connecticut's largest and most well-known companies.
