An elderly man has died from his injuries after being run over by a van in New Rochelle Tuesday.
Police say the van was backing out of a construction site at North Avenue and The Boulevard at around 11:30 a.m. when it struck the 65-year-old man on a sidewalk. The victim's walker and groceries were still pinned under the van after the accident. The victim's name hasn't been released.
Justin Depugh was working on a window at a store in the area when he heard yelling. "When I looked in that direction, I saw somebody under the vehicle," said Depugh. "I'm a little shaken up. It's not something you see every day."
Authorities say the New Rochelle victim was conscious at the scene, but suffered cardiac arrest in an ambulance and died at a hospital.
No charges have been filed against the driver of the van, but authorities are investigating. They say the driver is cooperating.
