The Eastchester Fire Department is warning residents about a scam.
Officials says a business owner was contacted by a person claiming to be with the Eastchester Fire Department.
They claimed the business owner's fire extinguishers were expired and requested payment from the business to inspect the extinguishers.
Eastchester Fire Department wants to stress that it does not inspect portable fire extinguishers, and that the only time a business owner will be instructed to have a portable fire extinguisher inspected is during a periodic fire inspection of the building conducted by the Eastchester Fire Department.
They will also never ask for payment to perform a periodic fire inspection of the building.
They are asking people to please report any suspicious activity to their local police department.
